With a weight of 168 kilograms, 848 is as much as 20 kilograms lighter than its predecessor (749) and 5 kilograms lighter than its older brother 1098. The improved 848 engine uses a new method of producing an engine crankcase made by injection molding using vacuum. Besides the fact that this method reduces the weight of the motorcycle by more than 3 kilograms, it also provides constant hardness of the walls and increases strength. Subsequent improvements include an oil bath clutch, which reduces weight by another 1 kilogram and increases the service life, as well as improves the feel of the road and creates additional softness of control.
